We've only been back a little more than a week, but it already feels like ages ago that we went to sleep and woke up to the sound of the sea. (heavy sigh!)
The other day I saw a commercial on television for a cruise ship that had scenes of a man and a woman wistfully musing about their time on the ship: they had been royalty...they woke up when they wanted...ate wonderful meals...relaxed and had every whim indulged. Then, in one of the final frames, the man stands in his office looking forlornly out the window as he adjusts the blinds saying: "I think of this as a temporary exile."
The schweetie and I have started saying that as we look out upon the snow and the (brrrr) below freezing temperatures. We marvel that just a week ago we were drinking coffee on a deck that was less than 100 feet from the beach while we watched dolphins and whales (yep we spotted finback whales several times from our deck) and planned our next meal, adventure, or nap. Yes, this is just a temporary exile.
I realize that 2/3's of my photos are of the sea. I always do that; I'll take a photo in the morning from this angle, and then another from that angle; noticing how the light varies with just a little turn of my body and the camera. And our rented house afforded many angles - bottom deck at the picnic table, off-the-2nd-floor bedroom while sitting on the porch swing, or from the 'crow's nest' with the view from beach to the bay (the part of the island that we were staying on was less than a mile wide...). Yum.
I can almost hear the hum, woosh and crash of those waves when I look at the photos. It helps a little...as I sit in frozen exile.
This rainbow appeared in the sky over the bay on our first morning; a good sign for a delightful week...
That same morning, looking south from our deck...
The schweetie doing a little surf fishing...
Looking out from the bedroom...(i'm standing right next to the bed - this is the view we woke up to...)
It was a cool morning, but that didn't keep me from ritual of reading and having my coffee on the deck...(and clearly, i am no slave to fashion...)
The end of the day - from the same deck where I had coffee that morning...
Another perfect sunrise. Our last day...
Home again. A very different view...
The flower pot on the front porch...hanging on and dreaming of better weather...(just like me)...
Such beautiful pictures (and memories), Deb. You're right ... one can never have enough photos of the sea. It's such an awesome sight.
... also love the picture of the feisty little flowers.
Now that we've had the winter solstice, we've crossed over into the 'days are getting longer' territory. Yay! Come on spring!

Oh this looks just divine, seriously. How far in advance do you need to book this place? Love the photo of the flower in the snow, too. So far, I am linking this winter weather, I must admit :)

Sounds like you had a fabulous time and rainbows are always wonderful signs.

When my friend and I were walking on Ocean Beach in S.F. a couple of Sundays ago it suddenly felt like a LIFETIME ago that I had daily walked my neighborhood tropical beach...instead of only 9 months ago. Gee, and to think I used to think of my life on the island as a "temporary exile"...(no joke!) :)
