In a few days my family will mark 4 years since my mom died of pancreatic cancer. I'm hoping to join in on the Long Island fund-raising walk this summer (if only i can, since there's no link on the site to get involved yet, and no one with the parent organization can get me in touch with the organizers until they load up their site ... daaamn), but in the meantime, just take a look at this - the fabulous Randy Pausch testifying before a congressional subcommittee on the need for more funding for pancreatic cancer research. Knowing what pancreatic cancer does to ones body (watching my mother and my 2nd cousin go through it), and the complications he's dealing with now, I admire this inspiring man with a ferocity I can't quite describe. A reluctant 'poster boy' for pancreatic cancer research, he is using his surprise celebrity to bring awareness to this hideous disease (oprah, good morning america, cbs news, and kqed public television are just a few of the media outlets who have covered his story). Never met him; LOVE HIM.
Aw jeez, how out of it am I? As soon as I saw the title of this post, I thought, wait a minute, didn't I already read this...? Apparently so! Whew, okay, not as out of it as I thought. (Stupid Bloglines.) ;)

That disease took my paternal grandfather...and very quickly after his diagnosis. He's hoping our government will put some much-needed funds into research.
